Set Aim Point

The Aim Point is the center of the 3D space that is represented in the perspective sequence and will appear to the observer of the finished lenticular to be at the surface of the lenticular lens. Such a sequence, containing a pyramind, a sphere and a cube, is presented below. The final lenticular image is to have an aspect ratio of 1.33 so, for simplicity the render has an aspect ratio of 2.66. Composition of the scene is in the center 50% of the capture plane. (i.e rendered image at 1280 * 480 pixels). The pyramid is centered in the right half of the composition and moves to the center of the left half of the composition as the camera moves left to right. In this example the perspective sequence was rendered centered on the pyramid to ensure that the off-center cropping does not exceed 50% of the capture plane or render width so that the whole scene fits within the cropping area when the aim point is altered.

The aim point is set to the area of the sphere by cropping the image at the 1.33 aspect ratio centered around the sphere in the composition. Each crop's center is offset left or right of the center of the capture plane width. (i.e. of rendered image) The following animations show the off-center cropping that will set the aim point to the sphere, the cropped or aligned image sequence and a cross-eyed stereo image pair.

Cross-eyed stereo pair of first and last frame.

Note:The same thing can be accomplished by aligning the center of the composition with the center of the capture plane width and center cropping. Either method should take into account any alpha channels needed for compositing different 3D sequences.
